Japan’s Holocaust is a comprehensive exploration of Japan’s mass mur**der and se**xual crimes during the Pacific and Asian Wars from 1927 to 1945. Japan’s Holocaust combines research conducted in over eighteen research facilities in five nations to explore Imperial Japan’s atrocities from 1927 to 1945 during its military expansions and reckless campaigns throughout Asia and the Pacific. This book brings together the most recent scholarship and new primary research to ascertain that Japan claimed a minimum of thirty million lives, slaughtering far more than Hitler’s Nazi Germany. Japan’s Holocaust shows that Emperor Hirohito not only knew about the atrocities his legions committed, but actually ordered them. He did nothing to stop them when they exceeded even the most depraved person’s imagination, as illustrated during the Rape of Nanking as well as many other events. Japan’s Holocaust will document in painful detail that the Rape of Nanking was not an isolated event during the Asian W

Sex and the Citadel: Rape and War

Image
Sex and the Citadel: Rape and War Mary Chamberlain Female 'collaborators' suffered more frequently then their male counterparts. There are iconic images of the end of the Second World War:  the Soviet army reclaiming the Reichstag; jubilant sailors embracing their girls; women paraded semi-naked, heads shaved, a placard of shame around their necks. These were the ‘horizontal collaborators,’ the women who slept with the enemy. Such punishment was a near-universal form of rough justice – even the Channel Islands were not immune, though it was dismissed by Brigadier A. E. Snow, the head of the Southern Command, as ‘haircutting’ by a few ‘hotheads.’ Rape and war. It is, ho inwever, a particularly gendered (and ancient) form of vigilante justice, with no account taken of the circumstances in which such ‘collaboration’ took place. Sexual violence against women as a weapon of war was not judged as a crime by the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg in 1945. As a result, sy

Privilege, Among Rape Victims

Image
Privilege, Among Rape Victims DENVER — LATELY, people have been bombarded with the notion that universities and colleges are hotbeds of sexual violence. Parents fear that sending their teenagers to school is equivalent to shipping them off to be sexually victimized. But the truth is, young women who don’t go to college are more likely to be raped. Lynn A. Addington at American University and I recently published a study based on the Department of Justice’s National Crime Victimization Survey data from 1995 to 2011. We found that the estimated rate of sexual assault and rape of female college students, ages 18 to 24, was 6.1 per 1,000 students. This is nothing to be proud of, but it is significantly lower than the rate experienced by women that age who don’t attend college — eight per 1,000. In other words, these women are victims of sexual violence at a rate around 30 percent greater than their more educated counterparts. The focus on sexual violence against some of our most privile

Pakistan toughens law to crack down on rapist

Pakistan toughens law to crack down on rapist Pakistan's president has issued a new law intended to speed up sexual assault cases. It follows months of protests after the gang rape of a women in front of her children along a deserted highway near Lahore. Pakistan has passed a new rape law allowing for the establishment of special courts for rape trials, in an effort to expedite cases dealing with the sexual abuse of women and children. The new legislation was prompted by the gang rape of a women in front of her children beside a deserted motorway in September. Massive protests rocked Pakistan in the days that followed, urging the government of Prime Minister Imran Khan to take decisive action to prevent sex crimes in the country.  immediately, but will require ratification by the parliament within four months. Allied armies liberated the Nazi camps

Image
In the first months of 1945, the Allied armies liberated the Nazi camps one by one and discovered the scope of the massacres. In April, pictures of the horror were transmitted around the world and the survivors' repatriation was organised. Yet it took years to understand the reality of the concentration camp system and uniqueness of the genocide. "The gates of hell have opened", American journalist John Berkeley wrote in May 1945. Horror sums up the discovery of the Nazi camps by the Allied armies. The event was the starting point for many stories, often highlighting the exceptional case of Buchenwald, where the prisoners took up arms to free themselves and expel their SS guards. A minority of the prisoners were lucky enough to be liberated under the agreements signed between the SS and the Red Cross, thus avoiding the deadly camp evacuations. But the most striking realities are those of the prisoners who were executed or left on the roadside or elsewhere, exhausted, and

Mom dies pregnant the next day her sister visits her grave & got shocked

Mom dies pregnant the next day her sister visits her grave & got shocked Mom dies pregnant. The next day, her sister visits her grave and gets shocked. A shocking moment in a recently surfaced video captured a deceased pregnant woman gave birth to a baby in her grave. A dead woman could give birth two ways to a live child. The first is after a brain death. Sometimes bodies with life support can continue to function even after doctors pronounced brain death. There was a case that made the news recently about a woman who gave birth to a healthy child after being pronounced brain dead. The other is via Csection. Very soon after the death of the mom. When the mom stops breathing, the baby, which receives oxygen from mom’s blood, also starts to die. Sometimes bodies with life support can continue to function even after doctors pronounced brain death. Apocalypse in Dresden, February 1945

Image
Dresden, as well as the neighboring Saxon cities of Chemnitz and Leipzig. Air attacks on these sites would degrade the Germans' ability to resist the Soviets. Despite postwar claims that Dresden had no military significance, it was in fact a rail center important to the Third Reich’s faltering war effort in the East. There were also factories engaged in arms production there. Ordered by Deputy Chief of the Air Staff Norman Bottomley to bomb the city, Air Marshal Arthur Harris, head of the RAF's Bomber Command, envisioned massive raids on Dresden.  Long wanting to target it, he intended to totally eliminate Dresden's capacity to aid the Wehrmacht. Operation Gomorrah, the RAF’s obliteration of Hamburg in July 1943, provided a fearful precedent. So did the strikes against Kassel in October of that same year, and Darmstadt in September 1944. Tens of thousands of civilians had been killed in these operations. The air offensive against Dresden and other Saxon cities would be a jo

The Western Allied invasion of Germany

Image
The  Western Allied invasion of Germany  was coordinated by the Western Allies during the final months of hostilities in the European theatre of World War II. In preparation for the Allied invasion of Germany east of the Rhine, a series of offensive operations were designed to seize and capture its east and west banks:  Operation Veritable and Operation Grenade in February 1945, and Operation Lumberjack and Operation Undertone in March 1945; these are considered separate from the main invasion operation. The Allied invasion of Germany east of the Rhine started with the Western Allies crossing the river on 22 March 1945 before fanning out and overrunning all of western Germany from the Baltic in the north to the Alpine passes in the south, where they linked up with troops of the U.S. Fifth Army in Italy.[16][l][18] Combined with the capture of  Berchtesgaden , any hope of Nazi leadership continuing to wage war from a so-called "national redoubt" or escape through the Alps was

Who Is Shabnam Ali: First Woman To Be Hanged Till Death After Independence The Mathura district jail has started preparations to hang a woman for the first time in independent India. Shabnam Ali, 38, was convicted of killing seven members of her family — her mother, father, two brothers, sister-in-law, cousin and 10-month-old nephew — by serving them milk laced with sedatives and then slitting their throats.Shabnam hails from Bawankheri, a village some 20km from Amroha in Moradabad division of Uttar Pradesh and is a double MA in English and Geography. Before she murdered her family members pls, Ali worked as a school teacher who taught in the village school and was a favourite among her students.Shabnam’s uncle, Sattar Ali, describes her as a demure girl, "every bit the obedient daughter" who nobody thought was capable of murdering her family for her lover. On the intervening night of April 14 and 15, 2008, Shabnam drugged her family and slaughtered them. She was burnt alive by the man she loved. Then Judy Malinowski testified at her own murder trial Ohio mother Judy Malinowski miraculously survived for almost two years after her boyfriend doused her in gasoline and set her alight. Suffering unimaginable pain, she used that time to fight for other victims and record testimony in her own murder trial that sent her attacker to prison for life, writes  Sheila Flynn Speaking from her hospital bed – missing hair, skin, ears and fingers after suffering burns to more than 90 per cent of her body – Judy Malinowski raises a deformed right hand and stares down a video camera. The word “frail” doesn’t even come close to describing the appearance of the young mother. It’s hard to believe she is even alive. Judy’s voice is steely, belying an unfathomable strength and determination from a body on the verge of giving up. The arson victim is talking through the live feed to her lawyer and then to the attorney representing Michael Slager, the boyfrie

The youngest mother in history who gave birth at the age of 5-years old

Image
The youngest mother in history who gave birth at the age of 5-years old In 1939, a 5-year-old Peruvian girl from a poor Andean village was brought to a local hospital with concerns about swelling in her stomach. Lina was one of nine children, and her parents feared that the growing bulge in her abdomen was a tumor, but it turned out to be something far more startling. After giving Lina a full examination, the doctors delivered the shocking diagnosis. Lina was seven months pregnant. On May 14, 1939, Lina delivered a healthy, 6-pound (3-kilogram) baby boy via Cesarean section. She was exactly 5 years, 7 months and 21 days old, making her the youngest mother in recorded history. An Extreme Case of Precocious Puberty "It's an absolutely unbelievable story, but these things do happen," says Dr. Erica A. Eugster, a pediatric endocrinologist and professor of pediatrics at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Lina represents an extreme case of a relatively common child

This is an amazing story of the Three-month-old Elayna Nigrelli has redefined what it means to be a miracle baby. She was born while her mother was technically deadIn February, Erica Nigrelli was teaching at a high school in Missouri City, Texas, when she walked into a co-worker’s classroom. Nigrelli said she felt faint, placed her hands on a table to steady herself and then passed out. Three teachers immediately grabbed a defibrillator and also began performing CPR. Kids in the classroom ran out, yelling for help. Nigrelli’s husband, Nathan, also a teacher, was just two doors down. He rushed into the room. “Erica was lying on the floor, she was foaming and making gurgling sounds and just staring up,” he told CNN affiliate KPRC. He called 911. “My wife is pregnant,” he said, his breath heavy with panic. “She’s having a seizure! The baby’s due in three weeks!” “Oh my God!” the 911 operator exclaimed. By the time paramedics rushed the 32-year-old to the hospital, doctors could not find a

While many would answer “Mongols” because of their brutality

Image
While many would answer “Mongols” because of their brutality and some would answer “Aztecs” or “Soviets” or “Waffen-SS”, the Assyrians were a terrifying and exceptionally brutal army even in the Bronze Age Semitic frame of reference. Even their contemporaries agreed the Assyrians were exceptionally cruel, and the Bible actually gives a polished image of them.Every religion creates a society of its image, and the Semitic Polytheism created an exceptionally brutal, atrocious and bloodthirsty society. The Bronze Age Semites believed the various gods were in continuous war with each other, and this was reflected on secular issues. Unlike Indo-European Polytheism, Semitic Polytheism was an exceptionally intolerant, fanatic and bloodthirsty religion, with human sacrifices, ritual mutilations, ritual castrations and cult prostitution being the norm. Unlike Zeus, Odin or Juppiter, deities like Baal, Marduk, Ishtar, Nergal and Molech strike horror even today’s psyche. (Nurgle, anyone? Yup, he i

The world’s most fearsome military units

Image
The world’s most fearsome military units I guess it’s really up to the circumstances isn’t it? Any American unit would do if you wanted shit blown up in addition to being trained quite well, a British unit for sheer stubbornness and willpower, Russian for ruthlessness… but in my opinion, the most fearsome means the best of the best These three guys are part of the Kommando Spezialkräfte Marine, also known as the Kampfschwimmers. This German unit I am referencing right here isn’t the most publicised like the Navy SEALs of the USA and SAS of the UK, and tends to lurk in the shadows. In fact, over the years, KSM numbers have decreased tenfold since the 90s, at which point they had only an estimated four thousand active members. (I've been let know that these numbers are due to the Kampfschwimmer being merged with a minesweeping group as support staff or something like that.) For roughly a decade, the dropout rate for training was 100%, meaning no-one made the cut, leading to the auth

This was the most-feared army of all time

Image
This was the most-feared army of all time The world has seen some heinous wars in its time, including those that took out entire kingdoms and cultures. There are wars of the past that modern citizens could do little to understand. Including those that were fought by some of the fiercest armies in history.  Though they existed more than eight centuries ago, Genghis Khan and the Mongols are still regarded as the most-feared military of all time. This is due to their reign over an incredible empire that they conquered in a short period of time. It’s also due to their methodology, which was to simply kill as many people as possible. It made people fear them, it lessened their enemies, and it allowed them to quickly gain ground toward their cause. However, Khan was known to offer enemies a choice to surrender, before he would attack. Those who agreed were spared. Those who did not, well… they added up to a huge sum. As did rulers or leaders of any given area. The Mongols are cited with k

Man Becomes A Musical Genius

Man Becomes A Musical Genius After Experiencing A Head Trauma Imagine waking up one day and finding out you are basically a musical genius even though you haven’t practiced a day in your life. That would be pretty amazing, right? Well, a similar thing happened to Derek Amato, only there was a significant price to pay.  In October of 2006, Derek suffered from a severe concussion after hitting his head at the end of the pool while diving. After this Derek suffered from 35% hair loss and some memory loss, but he also acquired a skill that many practice their entire life for - he became a composer. "As I shut my eyes, I found these black and white structures moving from left to right, which in fact would represent in my mind, a fluid and continuous stream of musical notation," Amato explained his condition. It is believed that Derek might be the only person in the world to gain genius-level talent after experiencing trauma, and even though the acquired musical savant syndrome is

A 2,000-year-old body that still had hair and eyelashes on it

Historical Events That Nobody Has Been Able To Explain So Far History is full of unexplained mysteries, and for some reason, we as humans tend to concentrate on the mysterious things more than the undeniable facts. A 2,000-year-old body that still had hair and eyelashes on it, to a text that  nobody in the world can understand, this list shows you the weird history side. The 2,000-Year-Old Body That Still Has Hair, Eyelashes, And Blood In Her VeinsXin Zhui who is also known as Lady Day was the Marquise of Dai during the Western Han dynasty in ancient China. Her tomb was found 2,000 years after her death inside a hill named Mawangdui in China with hundreds of valuable artifacts and documents alongside her body. What surprised everyone, however, was how incredibly well preserved her body was thousands of years after her death. Lady Day was found with all of her organs and blood vessels intact, there was also a small amount of Type A blood found in her veins, and she still had hair and ey

The Gorilla Who Said Animals Go To A "Comfortable Hole"

Image
The Gorilla Who Said Animals Go To A "Comfortable Hole" When They DieThe beloved gorilla Koko was taught sign language and was able to communicate with people through it. In an interview, Francine Patterson, who was Koko’s trainer and the closest human to her, was asked how deep their conversations with Koko would go. She answered “It started early on with a  conversation Koko had with one of her caregivers about death. The caregiver showed Koko a skeleton and asked, “Is this alive or dead?” Koko signed, “Dead, draped.” “Draped” means “covered up.” Then the caregiver asked, “Where do animals go when they die?” Koko said, “A comfortable hole.” Then she gave a kiss goodbye.” This interesting story surprised many and left a lot of room for philosophical debates. Oh, if only Koko could elaborate on her thought

LIFE IN SHADOWS: HIDDEN CHILDREN AND THE HOLOCAUST

Image
When World War II ended in 1945, six million European Jews were dead, killed in the Holocaust. More than one million of the victims were children. Driven by a racist ideology that viewed Jews as “parasitic vermin” worthy only of eradication, the Nazis implemented genocide on an unprecedented scale. All of Europe's Jews were slated for destruction: the sick and the healthy, the rich and the poor, the religiously orthodox and converts to Christianity, the aged and the young, even infants. Thousands of Jewish children survived this brutal carnage, however, many because they were hidden. With identities disguised, and often physically concealed from the outside world, these youngsters faced constant fear, dilemmas, and danger. Theirs was a life in shadows, where a careless remark, a denunciation, or the murmurings of inquisitive neighbors could lead to discovery and death. The vast majority of Jews in German-occupied Europe never went into hiding, for many reasons. Hiding meant leaving
