HUNGER AND FOOD SCARCENESS IN AFRICA

HUNGER AND FOOD SCARCENESS IN AFRICA Current Hunger and Famine Crises: Wars and Droughts Hunger and famine crises are escalating at several hot spots: in four countries – three in Africa and one in the Middle East – a total of 20 million people, including countless children, are at risk of starvation. These four crisis areas, all suffering from the consequences of armed conflict, are: Nigeria: The terror unleashed by Boko Haram militants triggered a mass exodus in northeastern Nigeria. When the Nigerian army recaptured the area in 2016, the scale of the refugee and hunger crisis became apparent. Somalia: Located in the Horn of Africa, Somalia is marked by decades of civil war and anarchy. Now Somalia has been hit by a devastating drought and related famine. This is even more drastic than the 2011-2012 famine South Sudan: In the north of South Sudan, famine prevails: on February 2, 2017, the United Nations officially proclaimed a hunger emergency. The country’s civil war, which has been

A 26-year-old Australian woman, Annie Knight, has reportedly lost her corporate job after her work discovered her secret Only Fans account. According to DailyMail, she shared her experience on SBS’ Insight on Tuesday, saying she was shocked she was dismissed from a corporate role. Knight, who claims to be in the top 0.4 per cent of creators on OnlyFans, said she did have apprehensions when she first ventured into the platform but didn’t think she would lose her job. “Yes, that was definitely my number one concern when I first started my account. And the last thing I wanted to do was to get fired if someone found my OnlyFans,” she shared. Unfortunately for Knight, these fears materialised a few years down the line. “I had just started a new job. I was on day five, and I actually went home sick that day, and I received an email saying termination of contract,” she explained. The email contained screenshots from her OnlyFans account, along with three reasons for her dismissal. The reasons

Meet the woman who slept with 10,000 men This was one of NZH Lifestyle's top stories for 2017. Warning: Explicit and distressing content Gwyneth Montenegro says she has slept with more than 10,000 men. She first stepped into a brothel at age 21, lured by the prospect of earning up to $1000 for an hour's work. While she doesn't regret her 12 years as a sex worker, Montenegro, 39, says she is glad to be out. Now, she is trained in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), an approach to personal development and psychotherapy made popular by American motivational speaker Tony Robbins. She teaches women how to "understand" men and get the most out of their relationships. Here she answers questions about the reality of sex work and what men really want. How did you first get in to sex work? "I never wanted to get into the sex industry in the first place. I was 18, I went out to a nightclub and my drink was spiked and I got taken away and gang-raped by 6-8 men -

Is Putin trying to monopolise the victory over Nazi Germany?

Image
Is Putin trying to monopolise the victory over Nazi Germany? These are the most ubiquitous windshield stickers in Russia, where Victory Day, or the May 9 celebration of Nazi Germany’s surrender, has become a near-religious public event. President Vladimir Putin promotes the celebrations of Russia’s “victory over fascism” as a show of Moscow’s military might and moral superiority. He also appears to be seeking to monopolise the victory over Nazi Germany by silencing the role other nations played in defeating Adolf Hitler. Millions celebrate Victory Day by marching with portraits of their forefathers who fought in the war that cost the USSR 27 million lives. Schoolchildren and toddlers sport WWII uniforms, perform in amateur concerts, lay flowers on the nearest monument to fallen heroes, and eat a “battlefield lunch” of buckwheat and canned meat. Moscow Patriarch Kirill, Russia’s top Orthodox hierarch, has compared the holiday to Easter as both celebrate “victory over death and des

Has science solved one of history’s greatest adventure mysteries?

Image
Has science solved one of history’s greatest adventure mysteries? A six-decade-old adventure mystery that has prompted conspiracy theories around Soviet military experiments, Yetis, and even extraterrestrial contact may have its best, most sensible explanation yet in a series of avalanche simulations based in part on car crash experiments and animation used in the movie  Frozen . In 2021, a pair of Swiss researchers first presented data pointing to the likelihood that a bizarrely small, delayed avalanche may have been responsible for the gruesome injuries and deaths of nine experienced hikers who never returned from a planned 200-mile adventure in Russia’s Ural Mountains in the winter of 1959. Three subsequent expeditions have since confirmed their assumptions about the deadly—and infamous—event. Dyatlov Pass incident, ten members of the Soviet Union’s Urals Polytechnic Institute in Yekaterinburg—nine students and one sports instructor who fought in World War II—headed into the frig

Hasanlu lovers

Image
Hasanlu lovers The  Hasanlu Lovers  are a pair of human remains found at the Teppe Hasanlu archaeological site, located in the Naqadeh in the West Azerbaijan Province of Iran. Around 800 BCE, the city of Hasanlu, located in north-western Iran, was destroyed by an unknown invader. Inhabitants were slain and left where they fell. In 1973, the lovers were discovered by a team of archaeologists from the University of Pennsylvania led by Robert H. Dyson. The two  human skeletons  were found together in a bin during  excavations , seemingly embracing at the time of death, with no other objects except a  stone slab  under the head of one skeleton. They died together around 800 BCE, during the last destruction of the Hasanlu. Approximately 246 skeletons were found at the site altogether. How the lovers died and ended up in the bin is still under speculation but both skeletons lack evidence of injury near the time of death and possibly died of  asphyxiation . They were exhibited at the  Penn

The 10 Grusome Steps of the William Wallace Death

Image
The 10 Grusome Steps of the William Wallace Death When you think of the William Wallace death, the first thing that may come to your mind is the movie Braveheart, followed shortly by an image of Mel Gibson covered in blue paint and crying “Freeeeeeeeeeeeeedom!” Braveheart is an amazing film and is one of the best medieval movies of all time, however, it unfortunately not an accurate depiction of the life or death of William Wallace. One of the unfortunate inaccuracies was that Wallace’s death was in fact a lot more gruesome than was depicted on screen. Wallace may have lived by the sword, but his death was not by the sword. When was William Wallace’s Death On 23 August 1305, William Wallace’s death took place. Found guilty of treason, Wallace was taken to the Tower of London, where his clothes were removed and he was tied to a hurdle and dragged through the streets by horses. At the end of this, he was hung, drawn, and quartered. If this was not bad enough, Wallace’s bowels burn

Impalement in the history: Worst way to die

Image
Impalement in the history: Worst way to die The verb “Khazak” in Arabic means penetrating or stabbing, It is the source of the word “Khauzakah” – Impalement, which refers to an inhuman sadistic practice based on the use of a wooden stick with a pointed tip that is pushed through a human body, often through the anus or vagina, then they lift the stick up in the air and hold it to the ground vertically, and the victim rises with it as if he is sitting over it, and the tip of the stick begins to dive into his body more and more by gravity, until it penetrates the viscera and comes out again across the shoulder or mouth. The speed of death varies according to the experience of the executioner. The more the tip of the stick is pointed, the more greased it is, the faster it passes through the body, and the sooner death occurs. The medieval executioners had creative ways and methods to increase agony. Perhaps they used a thick stick and made its head flat, so as to not penetrate the body q

The doctor called the police immediately after determining what was going on. Mark was just left without any explanation. The doctor had done some tests on him, and after seeing the results, he immediately informed the police and ran out of the room, leaving him behind. Mark was starting to panic now, as he now felt how serious this probably was. And when he found out that the doctor had locked the door on him, Peter started to see red. Violence impacts and transforms for a lifetime all those who experience it, commit it and witness it.

Violence impacts and transforms for a lifetime all those who experience it, commit it and witness it. The culture of punishment as spectacle runs deep in our society. The shocking news from a Mirzapur school last week of a child being dangled upside down from the first floor by his principal should trouble all of us. Although the incident concerns an individual’s action, it is situated in a social life that views exemplary punishments and its public spectacle as a norm. Physical punishment finds easy acceptance in societies that valorises cultures of violence – whether in public or domestic spaces. The unfortunate and unending phenomenon of mob lynching gives life to these cultures of violence. In India, the scope and scale of lynching have been expanding to include people associated with Dalit and Muslim identity, child-kidnappers, lovers, thieves and right-wing ideologues. Further, police beating ordinary citizens for violations of law in public spaces are some other examples tha

This is an unbelievable act man pouring acid on a fellow human being The  1964 Monson Motor Lodge protest  was part of a series of events during the civil rights movement in the United States which occurred on June 18, 1964, at the Monson Motor Lodge in St. Augustine, Florida. The campaign between June and July 1964 was led by Robert Hayling, Martin Luther King Jr., Ralph Abernathy, Andrew Young, Hosea Williams, C. T. Vivian and Fred Shuttlesworth, among others. St. Augustine was chosen to be the next battleground against racial segregation on account of it being both highly racist yet also relying heavily on the northern tourism dollar. Furthermore, the city was due to celebrate its 400th anniversary the following year, which would heighten the campaign's profile even more. Nightly marches to the slave market were organized, which were regularly attacked and saw the marchers beaten. At the same time in the U.S. Senate, the civil rights bill was being filibustered. Cheng Benhua became famous for this photograph taken on the day of her death, when she faced her assassination with a smile. In 1937, war broke out with Japan's invasion of China. Cheng Benhua was part of the Chinese resistance. She was captured along with other comrades in 1938, when the Japanese arrived in her region. She endured an ordeal: she witnessed the execution of her comrades, was repeatedly raped and humiliated. Despite all this, Cheng remained impassive and defiant, demonstrating a steely spirit that would not be broken. The photo was taken by a Japanese correspondent before she was bayoneted to death at the age of 24. In China she became an icon. The city of Nanjing has a 5-metre high statue of Cheng, the warrior who smiled at death, as a symbol of the indomitable spirit.

Pregnant Mom Undergoes Emergency C-Section — Doctor Looks into Uterus and Asks, ‘Where’s the Baby? While pregnant with her first child, a woman had an incredible and unforgettable experience. She went for a routine checkup in her final weeks of pregnancy, only to find out she needed an emergency C-section. But the real surprise came after the doctor looked inside her uterus.  In January 2023, Tamara McPhedrin turned to TikTok to share a shocking account with the world in a two-part video series. She narrated her most unusual experience during her first pregnancy, which became etched in her mind forever. Taking a walk down memory lane, McPhedrin said she was barely 17 at the time. Owing to her motherly instinct, she said something was wrong. But when she consulted the doctors, they dismissed all her worries, given her young age. McPhedrin started her eye-opening story with a short opening video inlay that read, “When the surgeon opened me up during an emergency C-section at 31 wee

Man who had world's first penis transplant to become a father The patient lost the organ in a botched circumcision The recipient of the world's first successful penis transplant will soon be a father, according to the South African outlet News24. His surgeons were recently informed that his girlfriend is pregnant. The surgery took place just six months ago, three years after the 21-year-old had lost his own organ after infection caused by a botched ceremonial circumcision. Stellenbosch University urologist, Professor Andre van der Merwe, who led the historic surgical team, explained at a March news conference that South Africa has a particular need for such a surgery: Members of the Xhosa ethnic group often practice adult circumcision, and poor sanitation leads to some 250 amputations every year. To get permission to use the penis that has now facilitated a pregnancy, van der Merwe's team had to fashion a new one out of abdominal skin for the deceased donor to be buried
