He named the island meaning ‘’High island’’ He wrote of a mine of copper on the isle under a spring on the top.It was said that on dark summer nights a french ship could be seen trapped under the waters.Three-hundred Acadians  refugees hid here during the expulsion in the 1750s.By the mid 1800s the Bay Of Fundy was a hotbed of shipping,and industry.The isle began appearing on  maps,with a warning it was a ‘’ship killer’’.In 1878 a lighthouse was built 53 foot tall.Percy Morris was lighthouse keeper from 1904-1941……Long held to be a place of pirates,and hidden treasure.Morris daughter wrote she saw men mark a X on a spot on the isle,In the 1920s a man from BC spent 4 years digging there for buried treasure,Donald Carmichael.In 1952 ,Edward Snow arrived fron America,he claimed to find 8 pieces of gold,and a skeleton.The local newspaper said the real money was not from finding pirate but writing books about it.This isle lies between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia in the Bay Of Fundy,owned by the federal government.
